Developing an Air Pollutant Emissions Database for Global Economic Analysis

According to the Global Burden of Disease study (Cohen et al., 2017), in 2015 ambient air pollutant emissions caused 4.2 million deaths and a loss 103.1 disability-adjusted life-years, making it fifth-ranked global risk factor. In terms welfare costs mortality illnesses associated with outdoor emissions, estimates for range between $2.7-3.2 trillion (Coady 2015; OECD, 2016). Still, while greenhouse gas are usually well represented many economic databases models, emission accounts most cases not included. particular, this is case widely used Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) Data Base model. paper we describe methodology produce dataset consistent GTAP version 10A. addition non-land use sources, from land activities estimated by cover type, based on volume burned biomass factors. The database can be readily incorporated GTAP-based computable general equilibrium enabling assessments wide policy questions, including health co-benefits climate mitigation policies. We illustrate an application tracking changes primary PM2.5 embodied trade 2004 2014.
